Hugh Despenser der Jüngere - Grab
Grab von Hugh le Despenser in Tewkesbury Abbey
Tomb of Hugh Despenser the younger Tomb in Tewkesbury Abbey that originally had an effigy of Hugh Despenser the younger, later replaced by a sarcophagus and slab for Abbot John Coles (1328-1347) Hugh Despenser was the Royal favourite of King Edward II, popularly thought to have been homosexual lovers and widely despised by the Queen and the Barons. He met a very grisly end in 1326 - hung, drawn, disemboweled, beheaded and quartered as a traitor with his penis and testicles cut off and burned before him whilst still alive.
